As you say, it could probably be fixed, but what about a
less-intelligent work-around to start with.
I'm wondering if a plain graphic could be the opening window, with
click-through to different sections of the timeline,
which have different zooms and bands.
I'm not sure what happens at the edges (eg moving from Birth in the
Life of Jesus to the Intertestamental section.
Perhaps a simple clickable arrows would work for now till a better
idea comes up.
- ie an arrow left to the previous section of timeline and an arrow
up to zoom out to the opening overall graphic
